More about this calculation

Choose your band, step and contracted hours

England Agenda for Change basic pay is adjusted from a 37.5-hour full-time week. The London supplement is calculated with its minimum and maximum at full time, then reduced for part-time hours. The basic pay and supplement are treated as pensionable.

Your NHS pension changes the deduction

The employee contribution tier is based on the actual annual pensionable pay modelled here. The tier’s percentage applies to the whole pensionable amount. It reduces Income Tax but not NI. Crossing a tier can change the size of the take-home increase.

Coverage and exclusions

This covers ordinary Agenda for Change pay in England from April 2026. It excludes doctors’ contracts, bank work, unsocial-hours enhancements, overtime, arrears, salary sacrifice and Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland pay scales. Progression is not automatic simply because time has passed.

Compare Band 5, Band 6 and Band 7

Change the band and step to compare your current pay with a possible role. Check where you would enter the new band and whether your hours or London supplement would change. The reference table uses full-time entry pay, NHS pension and no student loan.
