2026/27 pay calculator
First payslip checker
Reconcile a partial first month’s gross pay with the tax, NI, pension and student-loan deductions on your payslip.
Your details
Input guidance
- Annual gross salary (£)
- Before Income Tax, NI and employee pension deductions.
- Paid days in your first pay period
- Use the same calendar-day or working-day basis as the period-days field.
Your estimate
Estimated first payment after the deductions entered
£1,875.00
Based on the deductions you enter.
How this estimate works
This reconciles deductions you enter; it does not predict PAYE or a refund. Gross pay uses annual salary ÷ 12 × paid days ÷ days in the pay period. Your employer may use a different proration method or payroll cut-off.

More about this calculation
Start with gross pay and the payroll cut-off
A first payslip may cover only part of a month, or an employer may carry some days into the next payment. The calculation here uses the same day-count basis in both fields. Ask payroll if it uses working days, calendar days or a different formula.
Check your tax code
W1, M1, X or NONCUM indicates a non-cumulative emergency basis. A BR code alone does not mean emergency tax. Your first payment may use incomplete previous-employment details, so check that your employer has your P45 or starter information.
Reconcile, then ask about the difference
Enter the deductions actually shown. This subtracts those figures from estimated gross pay; it does not calculate whether the tax itself is correct or promise a refund. Check pension enrolment, loan plan and other deductions before comparing with the amount paid into your bank.
