How this estimate works
Employee pension rate: 13.88%. Pension is deducted from the pensionable pay entered before Income Tax, but does not reduce NI. Annual pay is held constant throughout the tax year.

More about this calculation
Enter current pay and pension relevant pay separately
Current annual salary is the pensionable pay you expect to receive. The contribution tier normally uses actual pensionable pay from the previous scheme year. New joiners and some returning members have special rules, so confirm the relevant figure with payroll.
The pension rules changed in April 2026
The model uses the 2015 scheme’s revised full and reduced contribution rates in England and Wales. A reduced rate applies only in specified circumstances; it is not a general choice to pay less.
What is outside this estimate
It excludes legacy scheme contribution arrangements, Scottish police pensions, overtime, non-pensionable allowances and NI deferment. Entering a rank does not determine pay, so use the pensionable salary on your contract or payslip.
